Universal Orlando Resort has officially announced the dates for this year’s Halloween Horror Nights event! This event has proven to be the world’s most popular Halloween event over the course of its 32 year history. This upcoming year will be the 33rd outing for the popular event, and with each passing year, the event expands its window of operations. This year, for the 2024 season, Halloween Horror Nights will contain the most event nights in the haunt’s history! And yes, it starts in August.

Debuting in 1991, Halloween Horror Nights, known as ‘Fright Nights’ in its opening year, only had three event nights. This year the event will see 48 terror tours on the town! Each year prior to this, we’ve seen the event inch closer and closer to the beginning of September, with last year opening on September 1st. This year, however, the seasonal Fall event stretches well into the summertime, officially opening on August 30, 2024 and ending on November 3, 2024.

With Halloween Horror Nights (HHN) being the world’s premier Halloween event, the popularity of the separately-ticketed spook has only grown more popular and become more crowded. However, instead of adding more capacity to the event through adding more houses, as some rumors had it last year, the company had decided to add more capacity through event nights instead. This is what Universal had to say about this year’s lineup:

“Every fall, guests from all around the globe brave their worst nightmares coming to life at Halloween Horror Nights – consistently named the world’s premier Halloween event. This year, a chilling new collection of horrifying experiences await guests, including 10 all-new movie-quality haunted houses inspired by cinematic greats and eerie original stories created by the twisted minds of Universal’s Entertainment team, and five scare zones filled with hundreds of menacing creatures who will reign the streets of Universal Studios Florida. And in between the screams, guests can enjoy an energetic live show, fuel up for the next round of scares with sinfully delicious food and beverage inspired by the event’s haunts, shop the latest merchandise at the highly-themed Halloween Horror Nights Tribute Store, and enjoy some of Universal Studios Florida’s most exciting attractions.”

Although seeing 12 houses at HHN 33 would have been ideal for fans, this move makes sense financially for Universal. More capacity without more investment is an ideal first move when trying to solve crowd related issues. 10 houses, 5 scarezones, at least one show, and multiple themed food, drink and merchandise locations has become a winning formula for Universal Orlando. However, with consistent price increases in ticket prices each year without an expansion of event offerings, at what point will guests decide enough is enough? We’ll have to see what awaits our wallets later on in the year when seasonal passes get announced. Jonathan Holt grew up in Central Florida and fell in love with the Theme Parks and creative culture of Orlando at a young age.

“Some of my earliest childhood memories are filled with trips to Disney and Universal with my family. The way the parks transported me to another world where it was okay to laugh and scream directly impacted the way I saw the world growing up. As an adult now, the parks still hold a very special place in my heart. The parks that we love, hold so much magic that they remind us what it’s like to be a kid again. My dream is to build a community that is able to have child-like joy together while talking about and experiencing the parks.”
